Towards the Preparation of a Philippine Strategy on Climate Change Adaptation

August – November 2009

The DENR-GTZ Adaptation to Climate Change and Biodiversity Conservation (ACCBio) Project is looking for eight (8) individual consulants in the following priority sectors for climate change adaptation – water, biodiversity, coastal and marine, forestry, agriculture, health, infrastructure and energy. The consultants will provide the needed expert support for the development of sector adaptation strategies based on the multi-stakeholder consultation-workshops convened by the TWGs.

The consultancy will cover an estimated 45 person days spread in the period of August –November 2009. The outputs will be delivered based on an agreed workplan endorsed by the TWG Chair of the respective sectors.

World Environment Day 2009 Photography Contest at AIT

As part of the World Environment Day (WED) celebration at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand on 5 June 2009, AIT and UNEP RRCAP are organizing a "WED Photography Contest". This year's competition will focus on the challenges of climate change and what we can do about it. Every member of the AIT Community (faculty, staff and students) is invited to participate in this activity.

After the G8

They agreed to fight climate change but there were no targets set for reducing the level of greenhouse emissions. Who will do it then? How will they fight it? So was it all just talk among the powerful countries of the world? It will be interesting to note what will be done. Many projects and endeavours are being undertaken by other institutions but the bottom line is for policy and decision makers to take action on the results. Hope any research results could be translated into understandable language so they can be easily adopted or accepted by the general public. But when? In the meantime, the struggle for a cleaner environment goes on, along with the struggle against the adverse effects of climate change in many parts of the world. Good if you can fight it, but sad for those who can't.
